Ricardo Alvarez, Medical Director of the Breast Cancer Center & Director of Cancer Research, Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), Atlanta, GA, US, talks to touchONCOLOGY about the mutational landscape of metastatic cancers discovered from prospective clinical sequencing at a community practice cancer programme and the findings from the data he presented at ESMO 2018 in Munich, Germany. Dr Alvarez also discusses which type of patients are ideal candidates for next generation sequencing, and he highlights some of the limitations of precision medicine. Finally, Dr Alvarez gives us his throughs on the future of precision medicine and how this translate to clinical practice. Questions: 1. What proportion of cancer patients in your institution are receiving drugs matched to mutations in their tumours? (0:11) 2. Could you tell us a little about the data you are presenting from community practices? (0:48) 3. Which tumours are most amenable to this approach? (1:59) 4. What are the limitations of this approach? (2:43) 5. By how much do you expect the proportion of cancer patients receiving matched treatment to rise in the coming years? (3:42) Speaker disclosures: Ricardo Alvarez has nothing to disclose in relation to this interview. Filmed at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2018 Congress, Munich, Germany, 19–23 October 2018
Editorial board member, Eleni Andreopoulou, from Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, US, discusses molecular subtyping and advances in molecularly-targeted therapy in triple-negative breast cancer. Q1. What are the major challenges of treating triple-negative breast cancer? (0:11) Q2. How have advances in molecular subtyping impacted on the treatment of triple negative-breast cancer? (1:50) Q3. What unmet needs remain in molecularly targeted breast cancer therapy? (2:36) Q4. What innovations in clinical trial design are facilitating the development of therapies for high-risk, early-stage breast cancer? (3:41) Speaker disclosures: Eleni Andreopoulou has nothing to disclose in relation to this video interview. Filmed at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting 2018, Chicago, IL, US, June 1–5 2018

A large study that ran from 1993–1995 with adjuvant high-dose chemotherapy and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation in patients with triple-negative breast cancer showed promising results, but lacked long-term data. To address this, a follow-up analysis has been performed. In her interview,...
The CompLEEment-1 trial is one of the largest trials in advanced breast cancer. The phase IIIb trial investigated the safety and efficacy of ribociclib plus letrozole in 3,255 patients. The preliminary results of the first 1,000 patients were presented at ASCO 2018; at ESMO 2018, the results from...
